Gamified System to Aid Geometry Learning for Children with ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neuropsychological disorder that affects people of all age groups, however it is in children that this disorder is more prevalent and presents more noticeable reflexes, such as lack of attention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. One of the ways to treat the deficit is the use of cognitive training, which consists in the use of games and recreational activities that develop the individual's executive functions (work memory, attention and response inhibition). In this sense, this project aims to develop a game aimed at learning geometry for children with ADHD between 6 and 8 years old. The methodology adopted to achieve the proposed objectives included bibliographical research, as well as the application of questionnaires to those responsible and interviews with teachers, psychologists and psychopedagogists working in the area. The system is being developed in accordance with the steps provided for in the Prototyping Life Cycle and following the Software Engineering guidelines. Data modeling was performed using UML diagrams. In the development stage, in which the project is currently, the PHP programming language, the Construct 3 game development platform and the MySQL database management system were adopted. there is a list of game features for children with ADHD, such as short activities, scoring system, immediate rewards and feedbacks, as well as content that should be worked with that age group in the field of geometry. In addition, the implementation process already presents as a result the validation interfaces (registration, login and settings), game choice and difficulty level, as well as three minigames: maze, which is equipped with features that encourage perception and movement in the space, memory, which works on attention, memory and location in space, size differentiation, which encourages the observation of congruence and size of figures. The next step of the project is to develop the other stages of the game, which will focus on knowledge about the identification and comparison of flat and spatial geometric figures, in addition to the implementation of sounds and attractive rewards.
