The use of experimental activities in teaching physics

Project summary

This research aims to develop an experiment using the Tesla coil as a teaching and learning tool in the teaching of physics and to understand its importance in our daily lives. Several adjectives such as abstract, difficult, incomprehensible, boring, are associated with the discipline of Physics, seen by many as accessible only to scientists or people with different intellectual development. During high school, the Physics subject is one of the reasons for students' lack of interest, they are tied to theory, they are concerned and stuck with formulas, physical equations, without understanding them, minimizing the value of great discoveries and inventions that contributed to our technological progress. Thus, it was noticed the need to work with experimental activities in the teaching of physics, specifically in the construction of a Tesla coil prototype to allow students to explore, discuss and understand the phenomena of physics and associate them with their reality. The methodological procedures were based on a bibliographic survey, collection and selection of alternative and low-cost materials to construct the experiment and carry out the tests and application. The results associated with the proposal to teach physics using experimental activities considerably make teaching better contextualized, bringing, therefore, systematic learning of scientific knowledge aimed at understanding everyday reality.
