The collapse of dams is a big problem for the world, for which a solution must be found in order to avoid or mitigate the damage that is caused. A possible solution could be an emergency plan. The work was designed to create an open channel to guide the tailings dumped after the break. An emergency plan like this needs to analyze the physics behind the interactions that exist between a fluid and an open channel. The area of ​​physics that deals with such problems is fluid mechanics. An open channel can be studied with the Navier-Stokes equation. From this analysis, it is possible to try to compare the results with a tailings flow that could actually happen. One of the goals in working with the Navier-Stokes equation is to calculate the viscosity force between channel and fluid. This is part of the equation that relates the fluid's velocity, the action of gravity on it, its hydrostatic pressure and its viscosity. So to get results, you must analyze each term present in the equation and think about how the modeling for real life will work. Data on dams such as Mariana and Brumadinho can provide the necessary information. As a conclusion, it can be seen that by studying a fluid flow within physics, one can bring it to reality and use the formula with terms that are taken from the study of dams, and then analyze the possibility of building a channel to redirect the tailings and avoid environmental damage.
